So here are my top tips for 2021. Look forward, look back, look now - but do so with some excitement, some love, and appreciation. We all know the power of positive emotions, of connection. Even small doses can make a huge difference. What can you get excited about? What would 2021 be like with connection in it? Where will love be happening? What does if feel like when you appreciate things, other people, and yourself? Imagination is more powerful than the will. Will-power becomes won't-power - when we fight it, we lose. Will-power is so last century, so let's leave it there, in the past, where it belongs. And instead, let's just imagine what things will be like when problems have gone away. If things go well, what do you see happening? What would be different, even in small ways? What difference would that make to you? Who would be pleased? And as you allow your thoughts to drift into the future, it's ok to imagine miracles. Viktor Frankl survived on hope, imagining against the odds that his wife might be alive somewhere and thinking of him too. It made a difference. It kept him alive. We have a lot more freedom than he had, and we have a lot to live for. Willpower is so last century. You don't need to manage your New Year's Resolutions. You already know what you want. You can let your imagination do the rest.

While the world around us continues to change we are trying to stay nimble. From 5th November we'll be conducting all sessions online. We will be setting up some support groups again. Last lockdown we ran these for furloughed workers and anxious people referred to us by GPs and Social Prescribing link workers. We're looking at how we can support people over the next couple of months.
Meanwhile, there's so much going on in the world of wellbeing - from the grass roots to the very highest levels. I was on a webinar recently with two members of the House of Lords and an OBE, all talking about wellbeing in Cornwall. Very exciting stuff. A strong emerging theme is "health creation", and putting power back where it belongs - with people, in the community. Wellbeing is complex. So is life. That's why we need to talk. Share. Work together. Here are some of the meetings and events coming up in November. 1. The Cornwall Festival of Business (2-6 Nov) including the Cornwall Business Fair on Weds 4th November. Free, and even easier than last year - you don't have to travel anywhere and you can meet hundreds of interesting people doing amazing things. I will be running a session called "USE your Brain" in the auditorium at 2pm - register at the Fair to attend. Some of you might recognise the content :) 2. CornWELL Festivals will be hosting the second of a 3-part series on The Future of Wellbeing. Thursday 5th Nov, 10-1130am. The aims of the meetings are to share knowledge, stories, ideas, hopes and inspiration about how well-being is working, and can work in the future. Anyone with an interest in wellbeing will gain something. The assumption is that by improving the wellbeing network, and the conversations in it, we can improve wellbeing. 3. Healthy Minds Newquay will be holding their usual monthly meeting on Monday 9th November, 10-1130am. It's also called "Who's who and what can we do" and the aims are very similar to CornWELL Festivals - just more local. All welcome - even if you're not in Newquay! And that's it for now. I would highly recommend this series of webinars if you want to see the future I'm seeing for "health creation". I particularly recommend the webinar called "Community voices, barriers and enablers" which features some incredible people and success stories from Cornwall and Devon - really inspiring. I particularly enjoyed these moments (they're even more powerful if you've already heard the first hour and a half - it flies by, honestly!): 47:47 Hazel Stuteley, 1:27:54 Alisa Kefford-Parker - YES!!!, 1:28:42 Dawn Shepherd - "Listen to communities. The answers are already here." Together I'd really like to see this happening more in Cornwall. Very best wishes to you all, Adam It's so nice to be seeing people face to face, and interesting to see how enquiries have suddenly picked up again over the last couple of weeks. Thank you!
We've put extra procedures in place and moved the practice around a little to make some extra space, and it's funny how little changes also create opportunities. Clients can now enjoy a sea-view from our consulting room (which was our waiting room before) and it's nice to be practising in a larger space. You can see it here: https://youtu.be/Gy0hnuuvH8A A number of people are choosing this time to get back on top of habits. I seems lock-down has had some positive benefits for many, but for some the muffins or cigarettes have become a little too regular. It's nice to see that many people are getting back out and about, and it's helpful when we have other things to do - activities, interactions. Life in general can be so good for us, and it's lovely to be able to appreciate the good things - a trip to the beach, a cup of tea with friends, contact with the grandchildren, or in my case nephews and god-children. Contact with family and friends is a medicine in itself. Give me a call any time if you'd like to talk about any issues or ambitions you have, in this most interesting of times. I'm Adam, I'm here in Newquay and I'm on 01637 852394. There are some silver linings. I have been very heartened by the community response. As always, we are capable of great things when we want to, including great kindness, and personal sacrifice. Please be assured that I and my team at Newquay Hypnotherapy will do everything we can to support our clients, their families and the communities in which we live. Please let me know if there is anything at all we can do to help. As you may have read, or assumed, all our appointments are now happening online, via video-call or phone. This is something we have always offered, it works very well and there are some benefits. You don't have to go anywhere, for example! All you need is an internet connection or phone line, and a comfy-ish chair. I am finding a surprising number of pets are also joining in with the therapy. As usual, they sometimes demand part of the attention, but overall I'd say they are net contributors! I look forward to catching up with some of you. My thoughts are with you all and your families. Best wishes,
Adam CORNWELL Festival of Wellbeing is on 31st October 2019, from 10am until 5pm at the wonderful Bedruthan Hotel and Spa. It's free to attend, and there'll be lots of interesting people and lots of things to explore and experience, including dance and martial art demonstrations, live music, lots of exhibitors and a series of workshops on wellbeing, including life planning, meditation, mental health at work and at home, and plant-based medicine.
There is also a networking lunch, and a unique and luxurious Spa Garden experience - see below for booking details. The event has evolved from monthly meetings run by a group called Healthy Minds Newquay, which meets at Coffee on the Corner in Newquay at 10am every 2nd Monday of the month. The Festival of Wellbeing is being run by a team of volunteers from this group - showing the power that exists within our community to look after ourselves and each other. The event is all about conversations and connections - so come along and see who you might meet. Find out more at www.cornwellfest.com or register here. We just competed our first live team meeting for "hypnotherabots" - our brand new project developing automated, online conversations so people can access help wherever they are, whenever they want, without even having to engage with another human. Sounds strange, but sometimes this is just what people need. Or so we think... we're going to find out.
We also want volunteers and early adopters to try out the online tools. The only way to learn is by doing. If you'd like to join in, go to www.hypnotherabots.com - we look forward to seeing you there! ![]() There's an extra helping of events happening this month starting with Newquay's first and very own HEALTH & WELLBEING FAIR at Steam Bar & Cafe (Great Western Hotel) on Saturday 11th May - 10am-4pm. With over 25 organisations represented this will be a brilliant event bringing together and celebrating a wide range of Newquay-based providers, and the chance to sample some of their health-giving services. The organisers of Art8 - Newquay's Arts & Culture Festival - have chosen the theme of this year's festival to be Health & Wellbeing. This Fair is bursting on to the scene and we will start as we mean to go on - one for the calendar. Then of course it's Mental Health Awareness week starting on Monday 13th May. The theme this year is Body Image which will make for some interesting and valuable conversations. Please feel free to start and contribute to threads on the Healthy Minds Newquay page. So much going on - and of course at the centre of it all is conversation and connection - things that make being human beautiful. OneWave Newquay kick off their Summer sessions this Thursday 9th May with a royal visit from Grant Trebilco. Grant founded OneWave in Australia and hosted Harry and Meghan at his base at Bondi Beach. The usual mix of informal drop-in sessions continue with the next one on Monday 13th May at Coffee on the Corner - see below for details. Then on Monday 27th "It's good to TALK" will take place as usual at Sprout Health Foods - with a growing band of experienced volunteers on hand to lend a judgement-free, listening ear. As always, everyone is welcome to all Healthy Minds Newquay meetings. Just come along, or get in touch, or see us on facebook if you have any questions at all. ![]() I had a wonderful success story from a client this week, and want to share the joy and excitement! This is from a mum who brought her 8 year old daughter to see me. What an amazing duo! Here's what the mum reported to me earlier this week: "I just want to share Charlotte’s success this weekend. She and her pony Buttons took part in their first hunter trial (basically riding across the countryside, jumping various obstacles and jumps). Anyway, a few months ago Charlotte would not have even considered taking part, but since your sessions her confidence has grown and grown, and she wanted to have a go. As she entered the warm up arena – the old ‘un-confident’ Charlotte started to appear, with lots of comments of ‘Buttons, is going to be naughty, I can’t do it’ etc. etc.! I simply asked her, did she think that it was her primitive brain talking, because Buttons has never done anything naughty. She agreed that yes it was, because she KNEW that she and Buttons could do it, and she could visualise them having a great time going over the jumps. And with that, she was off – cantering across the countryside, having an amazing time – jumping everything she had the chance to jump! And when she got to the finish line – she asked to go again! It never ceases to amaze me how powerful and effective the knowledge you have passed onto us both is. So excited for Charlotte and Buttons future!" Cue tears of joy. ![]() We are pleased to be hosting a week of community events in Newquay, bringing people together to understand stress and what we can do about it.
