Hypnotherapy works
It’s been another good month here. Looking at our new data we can see that 10 more people have graduated from the Newquay Hypnotherapy experience, with an average satisfaction score of 4.8 out of 5. This is very satisfying and enjoyable, for all involved.

Thank you to all our ‘graduates’ and community members. You are part of a mission to create a fear-free, confident, kind and happy society. Looking at our data, gathered over 7 years and about 450 individual clients, the answers are clear:


Q: Does hypnotherapy work?
A: Yes. It is calming, positive, easy and enjoyable and works very well for the vast majority of people. Q: How long does it take? A: Not very long! On average people see a 27% increase in confidence after just 1 week, and a 49% increase after 8 weeks.

This makes for an interesting business model, as it means I only see people for an average of 6 weeks, 2 people graduate each week, so each week I need to find 2 more. This is the reason I can often be found out and about meeting new people and networking to my heart’s content, with the Cornwall Chamber of Commerce, Your Partnerships and at other events like the Hall for Cornwall monthly meet-up.

Measurable improvements
Here’s what the average improvement curve looks like, across about 450 individuals. Each week we measure 8 wellbeing questions, each with a score out of 10. So, 80 is the maximum score overall. I see people with quite severe symptoms - on average they start with a wellbeing score of 56. On average they leave with a score of 77 out of 80 after 8 sessions. Many people say they are 10 out of 10 across all scores!! This includes sleep, which is the best medicine of all.

People experience improvements within the first week (confidence up 27% by Session 2, sleep improved by 26%). Then over the course of the next few weeks people can build complete confidence that things are going to stay that way. The brain-science backs this up in terms of how we develop new neural pathways and reorganise old ones over time. The biggest improvements overall are in confidence (49% improvement), positive thoughts (49%) and overall happiness (45%).

The conclusion seems to be that happiness does not have to take very long. Confidence and wellbeing do not have to be far away, even for people who have been suffering for a long time.

We are all unique

Learning is not always a straight-line. Here is an example of the journey for a business owner with generalised anxiety, and navigating some life-changes:


For people with symptoms of depression, the changes can start slowly before they gather an upward momentum. For others with strong initial scores but with particular issues like a phobia (needles, flying and dogs are the most common I see) which really can be quite debilitating and unpleasant, the recovery can be quite fast and thorough:

In general, improvement scores tend to be really good when people are referred to me by a previous client. The power of positive expectation and trust really helps. At the same time, solution focused hypnotherapy isn’t for everyone so it’s important to make sure it’s going to be a good fit. Reviews and testimonials
We’ve also been gathering qualitative data - thank you to the many people who have helped with this. It has been a delight to read and a full smorgasbord of amazing testimonials is available to view on our website. There are some strong themes (positivity, calm, ease, huge improvements).
